A father is taking Edward Hospital in Naperville and a pediatric emergency physician to court, claiming his son’s appendicitis was misdiagnosed, resulting in several surgeries and permanent injury.
Napoleon Bayna, who lived in Bolingbrook in 2011, says in a lawsuit filed Monday in Will County that he took his son, Matthew, to Edward Hospital in November 2011.
Edward staff, including Dr. Hyung J. Kim, diagnosed the boy with viral gastroenteritis and sent him home, according to the lawsuit.
It says the boy’s appendix ruptured, requiring multiple surgeries and removal of portions of his intestinal tract.
The lawsuit alleges medical negligence and personal injury. Edward Hospital spokesman Keith Hartenberger declined to comment on the lawsuit, saying the hospital does not comment on pending litigation. The case is set for an initial review in court on Feb. 10.
