Help could be coming for
local food, shelter programs
Will County agencies that offer food and shelter to people in need could be in line for a share of a federal grant.
The National Board, which is chaired by the Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency, picked Will County to receive $360,678 in supplemental financial help, according to a press release. The local Emergency Food and Shelter Program Board of Directors, which is chaired by Michael Hennessy, president and CEO if the United Way of Will County, will decide how the funds will be distributed. The money, according to the release, will be split among emergency food and shelter programs throughout the county.
To be eligible for funds, a local agency must be a nonprofit group or a unit of government, among other things.
“This is the 31st year that Will County has participated in the Emergency Food and Shelter Program,” Hennessy said.
