JOLIET — The Will County Coroner’s office has identified the man whose body was found floating in the Des Plaines River Saturday evening.
The dead man is Leslie Bridges, 24, of Joliet, the coroner’s office said Sunday. An autopsy Sunday found that drowning was the probable cause of death, the coroner’s office said.
Joliet police are investigating and had no other information available Sunday.
Shortly before 5 p.m. Saturday, the crew of a barge saw a body floating in the east side of the river, north of the Interestate 80 bridge, Fire Battalion Chief Ron Schroeder said.
Using a boat and ropes, firefighters were able to bring Bridges’ body to the parking lot of the River Club bar, he said. Bridges was pronounced dead at the scene at 6 p.m. Saturday, the coroner’s office said.
Police said there were no reports of anyone jumping into the river on Saturday. Arrangements are pending.
