ELWOOD — Dave Albert is out after serving as the village’s police chief for over seven years.
“His contract was not renewed for a myriad of reasons,” sources said. Albert joined the department in September 1999 and became chief in March 2003.
Staffers said the administration had no comment and directed questions to village attorney Tom Gilbert. Gilbert did not return messages left asking for comment Wednesday.
Nick Weiss has taken over as chief on what sources say is an interim basis.
Weiss served 26 years on the Joliet Police Department, retiring as a lieutenant in 1994 to become Lincolnwood’s police chief.
After eight years, Weiss left to take over in Midlothian for a short time. Next he was police chief of River Forest from 2003 to 2008.
Since leaving River Forest, Weiss served for four months last year as an interim police chief in Gilberts, a small village in northern Kane County.
Weiss could not be reached for comment either, but has recorded an outgoing message on what was, until recently, Albert’s direct line.
