Former Stateville warden named Illinois prisons director

Former Stateville Warden Salvador “Tony” Godinez was named head of the Illinois Department of Corrections today .
Godinez was warden at Stateville Correctional Center in Crest Hill from 1991 to 1995. He had previously been assistant warden at the prison from 1983 to 1989.
He left Stateville in 1995 to become deputy director of administration and program services for the Michigan Department of Corrections.
Gov. Pat Quinn announced Godinez’s appointment this afternoon, noting his administrative experience in corrections in Michigan, Delaware, Louisiana and Puerto Rico.
In Illinois, Godinez also has served as chief of staff for the Department of Corrections. He left that position in 2006 to take his current position as executive director of the Cook County Jail.
