HOMER GLEN — Funeral services have been scheduled for Army Pfc. Michael C. Olivieri, of Homer Glen, who was killed in Iraq on June 6 when his base was attacked by insurgents.

Visitation will be from 2 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Modell Funeral Home, 12641 W. 143rd St. Funeral services will be held there at 10 a.m. Thursday. Interment will be at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Homer Township Public Library in Michael’s name to support a silent reading room.

The donations can be sent to the library at 14320 W. 151st St., Homer Glen, IL 60491.

Olivieri, 26, had been planning to come home this week for his sister’s June 25 wedding and to celebrate his first wedding anniversary, which was Monday.

Olivieri was a 2002 graduate of Lockport Township High School and attended Southern Illinois University.

Olivieri and four others belonging to the 1st Infantry Division in Fort Riley, Kan., were killed in the June 6 attack.

The soldiers deployed to Iraq in November 2010. Each had served less than two years and was on his first deployment. Olivieri was a field artillery data systems operator.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon Olivieri; parents Michael A. and Jody Olivieri; sisters Abby and Ashley; brother Joe; and grandparents Joseph J. and Adelaide Olivieri and Dorothy Riegel.
