NEW LENOX TOWNSHIP — A man found slain in his bed Tuesday night was beaten to death, police said.
Will County Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman Kathy Hoffmeyer said Dwight Jones, 59, last spoke with relatives four days before they went to his house at 13300 184th Place to check on him.
“Around 11 p.m. (Tuesday), family members went in to find the back sliding glass door unlocked and the residence ransacked, and (they) called police,” she said.
Allowed inside, responding deputies found a body in Jones’ bed.
“The body was too badly decomposed for family members to positively identify (Jones),” Will County Coroner Patrick K. O’Neil said today.
Fingerprints on file with the Bureau of Identification were checked and confirmed Jones’ identity tonight. An autopsy revealed the cause of death to be “blunt force trauma,” O’Neil said.
Jones’ gray 2008 Volkswagen Jetta, with Illinois license plate A234576, is missing from the residence, police said.
Anyone with information is asked to call detectives at 815-727-8574.
