Early Days

On this day, Sept. 16:

50 years ago, 1961

At their regular council meeting Monday, city officials will discuss the potential site of a new West Side fire station, a new well for the West Side, and storm sewers. Fire Chief Harold Rasmussen, who today began his 31st year of service with the Joliet department, has recommended a new station in the vicinity of Larkin and Glenwood avenues, or within a one mile radius of this location.

25 years ago, 1986

The travel policy questions that have haunted the Joliet Junior College Board since 1984 may have been put to rest Monday night. The philosophy of the new policy is summarized in a paragraph that reads, “When there are choices to be made as to travel accommodations and modes of transportation, economy and efficiency will direct those choices.“
