MORRIS — The city will seek bids for lower electric costs for its residents.
Aldermen Monday night approved an ordinance adopting the new electric power aggregation plan that will allow the city to seek lower bids from competing power supply companies by bundling residential and small commercial retail electric accounts.
Morris residents approved a referendum in April authorizing the city to operate an “opt-out” aggregation plan that would allow it to seek rates for its residents that may be lower than what they pay ComEd.
The plan was approved after the city held two mandatory public hearings in August and September.
The council Monday night also adopted the electrical aggregation opt-out program for residents who do not want to use the program’s new supplier.
All residents will receive notification of the program-removal option from ComEd and the Northern Illinois Municipal Electric Collaborative, the company that will assist the city in seeking lower electric rates.
Those who opt out will be required to send written notice of their decision.
