JOLIET — Local business leader Hugo Manzo has been selected to serve on the Silver Cross Healthy Community Commission.
Led by retired Will County Board member Margie Woods, the commission is a not-for-profit organization of community members focused on the re-development of the Silver Cross Hospital Joliet campus, education and workforce development, and improving the quality life of the residents of Will County — particularly those on the East Side of Joliet.
Manzo is an agent with Painters District Council 14. Raised in Joliet, he attended Joliet Central High School. Upon graduation, Manzo joined Will County Painters Local 33 as a drywall finisher working in the commercial and residential industry.
In 2002, he joined Painters District Council 14 as a union organizer responsible for Will and Grundy counties. Manzo is a member of the Chicago Drywall Finishers Board of Trustees, Chicago Black Trades Union, and trustee for the Will and Grundy Building and Construction Trades.
In addition to his work as a business agent, Manzo strongly believes in giving back to the community. Over the years, he has volunteered his time and talents with Dads Against Diabetes (DAD), Habitat for Humanity, and Joliet Area Community Hospice. In addition, he led a group of volunteers to repaint the Warren Sharp Center and St. Mary Nativity’s gymnasium.
