Alleged dealer arrested again

Updated: March 6, 2012 8:16AM

JOLIET TOWNSHIP — A man who was out on bond for allegedly dealing cocaine was arrested again Friday after police reportedly found more drugs and guns in his bedroom.

Deputy Chief Ken Kaupas said the Will County Sheriff’s Gang Suppression Unit used a search warrant at 5:24 a.m. to enter 1315 Demmond Court. The warrant was obtained Monday during an investigation of Branden D. Robinson, 22.

According to reports, officers went upstairs and kicked in a locked bedroom door to see a woman and infant sleeping in a bed while “Robinson was falling to the floor next to the bed (with) a black semi-automatic handgun (dropping) at his feet.”

A 40-year-old woman and 8-year-old boy were also in the residence, according to reports.

Police allegedly found 33 grams of cocaine and 263 grams of cannabis while searching the residence. Digital scales, cutting agents and sandwich bags were also found nearby, in addition to $13,743 that was also seized.

Robinson reportedly told police he’d been grabbing the gun when they came in because “he thought he was being robbed.” He allegedly said the cash came from the unemployment benefits he is currently collecting.

Despite such statements, Kaupas described Robinson’s demeanor as “uncooperative,” as deputies did during his arrest on Aug. 27, 2011.

Robinson was allegedly speeding in a black Tahoe near Brigss and Washington streets when he was pulled over. Deputies reported Robinson’s passengers appeared to be “hiding something in the center console” when the vehicle was stopped and later found 71 grams of cocaine and $982 inside.

After the four men were handcuffed, a deputy reportedly found Kelin J. Sharp, 21, was carrying 14 baggies of crack cocaine in his underwear. Sharp took off running while being put into a squad car but was recaptured after a footchase 10 minutes later.

During questioning, Robinson allegedly told detectives he did not know the names of the other men in the vehicle despite the fact that two of them are his half-brothers.

Robinson was charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and posted $10,000 bail to be released from jail while awaiting trial.

On Friday, Robinson was charged with possession of narcotics with intent to deliver, possession of cannabis with intent to deliver, possession of drug paraphernalia, armed violence and unlawful use of a weapon.

The loaded weapon Robinson was allegedly keeping under the bed had been reported stolen from Georgia, where he resided until last year, police said.
