JOLIET — A gang member was reportedly holding a loaded gun when he was Tasered by police officers Wednesday.
Cmdr. Al Roechner said officers were on patrol near Benton and Franklin streets when an oncoming gold Cadillac swerved into their lane and flashed its brights.
“The officers turned around and pulled the vehicle over in a parking lot in the 100 block of East Jackson Street,” Roechner said.
When the Cadillac parked, Jason V. Yantz, 18, and David Delatorre, 21, allegedly took off running while Damian T. Blowers, 18, was stopped while getting out of the vehicle.
“As Yantz was running, the officer saw he had a loaded 9 mm semi-automatic Glock in his hand and used a Taser to take him down,” Roechner said.
Delatorre, of 5518 S. Keeler in Chicago, was reportedly chased to the 400 block of Franklin where he was found hiding behind some garbage cans.
He was charged with resisting arrest and obstructing a police officer.
Blowers, of 755 N. Hickory St., was arrested for obstructing a police officer.
Yantz, of 735 First Ave. in Morris, was booked into the county jail on charges of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, possession of a firearm by a gang member, unauthorized possession of ammunition and obstructing a police officer.
