FRANKFORT TOWNSHIP — The passenger who was fatally burned in a traffic accident early Saturday has been identified.
Will County Coroner Patrick K. O’Neil said dental records were used to confirm the identity of Jake M. Stevens, 22, of Manhattan.
Around 3:45 a.m. Stevens was a passenger in a 2002 Dodge being driven on Steger Road at 104th Avenue when driver Kevin E. Krohn, 22, lost control and struck a tree, sheriff’s police said.
The car burst into flames on impact and an autopsy performed Sunday showed Stevens died from “thermal injuries.”
Krohn, of New Lenox, reportedly suffered compound fractures to both legs.
“Alcohol was a factor (and) charges are pending,” police said.
Teens steal two vehicles
JOLIET — Police said three teens who aren’t old enough for learner’s permits stole two vehicles Friday night.
One of the vehicles was crashed Saturday morning while the other’s owner reportedly spotted it being driven around Saturday afternoon.
Around 5 p.m. Friday, the owner of a blue Jeep Cherokee reported the vehicle stolen from the 600 block of North Raynor Avenue. Around 8:30 a.m. Saturday, two 13-year-old boys and one 14-year-old boy crashed and abandoned the car in the 400 block of Dixon Avenue, Chief Mike Trafton said.
The trio allegedly also had taken a silver Acura MDX around 9:45 p.m. Friday from the 1200 block of Mayfield Avenue.
“Around 1 p.m. the Acura owner was on the road and saw his car. He called police and followed the vehicle to the parking lot of a bar at Oneida and Center streets,” Trafton said.
The teens fled, but Officer Mike Reilly learned they had gone to a house in the 200 block of Marble Street where the 13-year-olds were found and taken into custody. The 14-year-old was picked up in the 400 block of Plainfield Road later that night.
“During interviews it was learned these subjects entered hundreds of cars in the Joliet area taking cash, GPS systems and bookbags,” Trafton said. “They said they’d go into vehicles that were unlocked but didn’t bother with vehicles that were locked.”
Driver exposes himself
to woman
JOLIET — A 48-year-old driver reportedly exposed himself to a woman Saturday morning.
Chief Mike Trafton said officers were called at 6:55 a.m. to Jackson Street and Parks Avenue by a 47-year-old woman.
“She said she’d been walking on the sidewalk when an SUV pulled over and the man inside said ‘I know it.’ She then saw he was holding his penis,” Trafton said.
The woman read the license plate as the vehicle drove away and officers went to 803 John St. where Tailor L. Siqueira was allegedly identified as the driver. He was arrested on a charge of public indecency.
