JOLIET — Under mimimum wage laws, he’d have made more working.
Police were called at 11:50 a.m. Monday to Super China Buffet, 2318 W. Jefferson St., after employees reported a man had broken into the gumball machine near the front door.
“Darrin L. Harris, 38, who is in a wheelchair, had come in about a half hour earlier and been reaching into the machine with his hands and a piece of black plastic that whole time,” Chief Mike Trafton said.
Harris reportedly admitted to the theft and handed over the seven quarters he’d gotten from the machine.
Because of previous convictions, the theft charge filed against Harris, of 520 Elmwood Ave., was a felony and he was booked into the county jail.

JOLIET — It’s said a picture is worth a thousand words and in this case it’s all we got.
Andrei Bibbs, 54, of Blue Island, was arrested Saturday by state police on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol.
When asked by Oh, No You Didn’t, state police and the county jail had no additional information available on Bibbs’ arrest.
But based on that booking photo, we’d like to find out Mr. Bibbs’ alleged feelings at the time.

HOMER GLEN — Hold the phone. We’ll send somebody.
A scammer was able to steal two phones Jan. 2 from Radio Shack, 14228 S. Bell Road.
Will County Sheriff’s police said a man called around 6 p.m. claiming to be “David,” the manager of the Radio Shack in Downers Grove. The man asked if their store had an AT&T iPhone and an AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II phone in stock and said he would come by to pick them up.
About an hour later, a man came in wearing a Radio Shack polo shirt and took the two phones.
The next day, the store manager learned the Downers Grove store never requested the phones and didn’t send over an employee.
