OSWEGO — Angie Smith, the director of business services for Oswego schools, was absent from Monday night’s School Board meeting, and for good reason.
Smith was in Plainfield, accepting her new job as the Plainfield School District’s assistant superintendent for business and operations.
Smith will be leaving her position in Oswego, and will be sorely missed, said Superintendent Dan O’Donnell. “Angie has been an integral partner in our finance and business operations. Her ability to negotiate lower prices from vendors and find great deals has been critical to balancing our budgets. ... Our loss is Plainfield 202’s gain.”
Smith joined the Oswego district in 2009 as the finance manger and was promoted in 2011 to the director position, assuming responsibilities for the district’s transportation department. She is also a member of the West Aurora School Board.
The Oswego district also is losing another administrator position, as Oswego East High School Dean Eric Koranda has taken an assistant principal job at the Fenton High School District in Bensenville.
“Eric’s steady presence in the halls and at activities at Oswego East will be missed,” O’Donnell said. “Eric had a ready smile and a helping hand for students as a dean at East.”
Koranda began working as an Oswego East dean in 2007.
Nine other administrators are leaving the Oswego district on June 30 — most notably, O’Donnell. He will be replaced July 1 by Superintendent Matthew Wendt.
In addition to the two new departures, board members welcomed two new hires on Monday. Andrew McCree was named principal of the Brokaw Early Learning Center, and Sean Smith was named assistant principal at Grande Park Elementary.
