OpenLine: Nobody owes women anything

Updated: May 14, 2012 8:07AM

This is response to Fran Fallon’s call about controlling women. My health insurance premium should not go up just because some woman doesn’t feel like buying her own contraceptives. Nobody owes women anything. There are a thousand ways to prevent pregnancy and they’re not all expensive. Women should take responsibility for their own actions.

I want something in return

How about me? I don’t need birth control or a free cell phone, but I could sure use some other perks. Maybe a voucher for a good health club. I’m sure we could all think of something we would like to have and have someone else pay for it. How about some free beer? I want to eat healthier, so how about somebody paying for a healthy eating plan for me? I’m kind of depressed over gas prices and the high cost of living; a little medical marijuana might help. I think it’s only fair if I have to pay higher taxes for everyone else that I should get something in return for it.

Tournament a success

I’d like to comment on the March 15 article about the WJOL Baseball Tournament at Silver Cross Field, with all the high school kids participating, on March 30 and 31. The tournament is now recognized as one of the finest early-season tournaments in Illinois. Great job to all the people who put this tournament together. It’s such a special event each year.
