If we don’t learn from history, we repeat it

It is of utmost importance that we look at history as a reminder of what man has been and is still capable of, both good and bad. Spanish-American writer George Santayana said it best: “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” It’s too bad that many today, especially liberal Catholics, choose to remain ignorant of the past.
For as long as man has walked the earth, there have been forces that want to separate us from our maker. The very first lesson man received was about obedience, and we failed that test. We bit into forbidden fruit because we thought we were smarter than our maker.
Today, our government and some liberals in the Catholic Church bite into that forbidden fruit. They defy God and are now on a mission to deny practicing Catholics our religious freedom.
Through the Health and Human Services healthcare mandate, Catholics are being persecuted by a statist government that wants us to turn our backs on God and to actively participate in the killing of human life through abortifacients and abortion itself. They have already come after our foster care programs and if they take away our healthcare institutions, they will then come after our schools and ultimately the churches themselves.
There is a movie coming to theaters on June 1 titled “For Greater Glory.” It documents the Cristero war when Catholics were forced to defend our Church from a Masonic and anti-clerical government in Mexico during the 1920s. Many Catholic clergy and laity were martyred as they rebelled against the Mexican government’s attempt to secularize the country.
Does this sound familiar to any of you? It’s starting to look like this is happening again, little by little, through the Obama administration.
Though it seems that we are far removed from the mid 1920s, it has been less than 100 years. There are still some people today who deny the World War II Holocaust atrocities ever happened. These history lessons are real and aren’t just stories made up for books and movies. Make no mistake, people, because so many of us are so caught up in the most mundane and stupid things, our freedoms have been eroding at a frightening pace during the past four to eight years. It’s time to wake up. If they come after the Catholics, they will then undoubtedly come after the rest of us.
