OpenLine: Birth control alternatives

Updated: July 6, 2012 8:46AM

Most people know that the Catholic Church opposes contraception, but few people know why, and that there’s a method of understanding their fertility that is safe and in line with natural law. The viewpoint that hormonal contraception is safe assumes that women have only two choices in life — either to use contraceptives or become pregnant. And it ignores choices that are healthier, safer and more effective. The choice of abstinence for single people, and natural family planning for married couples, is a welcome alternative to the side effects of hormonal contraceptives and abortion-inducing medication. Chastity before and during marriage promotes self-respect as well as self-control, another virtue needed for fulfilling lifelong marriage.

Unending propaganda

Almost four years ago, the Republicans were screaming about Obama being a far-left liberal activist Baptist. His minister was a fire-breathing radical who hated America. Now he is called a Muslim and has always been one. He still hates America because you never see him and the flag in the same picture. Most readers of this column know better, but political strategists are well paid to devise these lies. The Fox writers, producers and talking heads say those lies over and over. This method is a form of Goebel’s Nazi propaganda. They have created a modern brainwashing. They think enough people are stupid, naive or gullible. Unfortunately, they may be right.

Right to bear arms

A vote for Barack Obama is a vote against the Second Amendment.

Write in an independent

In order to get the Republicans and Democrats to realize that they are not doing their jobs, we have to send them a message. Write-in the independent candidate of your choice, during this upcoming election.
