Don’t like your job? Quit!

Part-time workers do not get benefits, no vacation pay, sick leave or healthcare. Wealthy people set up factories and stores. They do so to make profits for themselves, on their investments.

Unhappy employees should quit. The company would only have to whistle to find replacements among the many unemployed.

Jesus told a parable of a man hiring for a set pay for the day. Those hired later got the same pay. They agreed.

Today, when hiring, the hours and pay are set by the employer. The company sets the rules. Employees agree to the terms. Unhappy workers can freely leave.

Too many demands can affect the business. Striking is not always for your benefit. Businesses do close or move, leaving you unemployed. Where is your union then? Neither the union nor employees run the company. Thing of those unemployed waiting for your job!

The only solution is getting a better education to qualify for a better-paying job.

We deserve transparency

The residents of Joliet deserve to know where their city council members stand on the development of the city’s version of the “Guantanamo Bay” detention camp.

I attended the last city council meeting, and not one council member would publicly comment on their position of this for-profit prison. However, the three councilmen up for election in April are dancing around the issue. The only one caught in double-talk is Don Fisher. He has spoken in favor of it to the local unions and has said he does not support it to the Joliet ethnic communities.

Do you agree the residents of Joliet deserve transparency?

Why fret current president?

Note to Manny Ramirez who says in his OpenLine call (“Four more years of bashing,” Nov. 20) , “What happened, Obama-bashers? You get four more years of bashing. It must be a dream come true.”

Nuts! Now why didn’t I think of saying something like this during Nixon’s presidency — or Ford’s , Reagan’s, Or Bush Senior’s or Bush Junior’s presidencies? Your political buds are still bashing all of these former presidents, Manny; why fret about this current one?
