We have problems, George
In George Gaspar’s column of Dec. 10, he makes the accusation that the tea party is synonymous with racism. The twisted logic he uses to arrive at his conclusion illuminates a man who panders to the lowest level of incoherent argument.
To George, I ask the following questions: Since the Constitution requires that all fiscal matters originate in the House of Representatives, might the Republican-controlled Congress, under Bill Clinton, have had something to do with that surplus? Or maybe it was that Bill Clinton and the Congress actually negotiated with each other and each gave a little to get us to a better spot?
Likewise, since the Democrats controlled the House and Senate for the last two years of George W. Bush’s tenure and into Barack Obama’s first two years, maybe they had some culpability in the enormous deficits and debt that have been run up?
What you are witnessing, George, is not racism (Obama is actually of mixed parentage, I know that is a secret but I had to let it out) but rather a petulant president who is in charge and failing to lead. He is the president of us all, not just those who voted for him. Making comments like “I won” reeks of a junior high mentality. The GOP is right about spending and one need look no further than California and Illinois to see that raising taxes is counter-intuitive.
We have problems, George. The problems will not be solved by one man. The citizens of the United States saw fit to elect a government that is split among the two parties. That is a collective wisdom saying: “Good ideas come from all sides, get together and get the job done!” Yes George, the tea party, fiscal Republicans — whatever — have good ideas, as well.

Do not envy the rich
Many times I have heard and read of envy of the rich. Do they think God favors the rich? Consult your Bible and read: Job 34, 18-19; Proverbs 28, 6: James 5, 14-16, and many others.
If you are dissatisfied with what you have, educate yourself, so you can earn more.
I am not, and have never been, close to being financially rich, and I am OK. Richness comes in many forms other than money and material goods. Love and good health are more important.
