Letters: More guns, less crime

Updated: March 8, 2013 6:17AM

It is way past time that someone pointed up the absolute truth about new gun legislation: The only thing they can do is enable the slaughter of innocent Americans. It is so very obvious, I’m forced to point this out myself. Any politician or pundit who can fog a mirror should be able to understand this.

Let’s start with facts. Not media facts, but real facts from the FBI — violence in the United States has been in an astonishingly steep decline for the last 20 years.

American citizens use firearms to prevent crime some 2 million times a year. Often, the crimes stopped in progress go unreported.

It isn’t hard to understand why, for often the crime has been prevented, so there is nothing of substance to report. Again, law-abiding citizens do not wish for publicity, they don’t want citations, tax, and terror from their government ... so of course they don’t report these things.

More gun laws quite literally kill innocent Americans, the only Americans who pay any attention to them. All they can do, and all they have done, is imperil the regular citizen, particularly women, seniors, and minorities, while empowering the violence-prone criminal. Who in their right mind could think differently?

History has proved it, again and again. Thanks to the ability of the American citizen to personally resist and thwart crime, that is exactly what happens 2 million times every year in the United States, and violent crime and murder rates are in an unprecedented, very steep decline as a direct result.

Is our country anti-God?

Gadzooks, the world is more upset and confused than ever before. The latest discussions are about more guns, more sex and now, permitting homosexuals to join the Boy Scouts.

Do more guns on the streets and being carried mean less shooting and killing? I do not think so. Guns are made for killing, duh! What else are they good for? Collecting like a coin collection.

We can hardly pick up a magazine without sexually explicit ads therein. Sales catalogs are loaded with them. Decent folks cannot censor them all. Even general-interest magazines have such ads, which are not appropriate for kids, young people — and even old ones see them and absorb their meaning.

Now, Scout units are going to permit homosexual members. Ouch. Your kid wants to do outdoor activities and is bothered by another kind. If passed, even the Scout leader could be a homosexual approving this behavior.

Watch out, America, the Bible deals with these issues with Sodom and Gomorrah as one example. Al-Qaida thinks this country is anti-God. These actions are proving them right.
