Letters: Stealing our freedoms

So, the truth is finally starting to come out. Debbie Halverson is under attack by some PAC for supporting the NRA.
Folks, we all know she is not the only Democrat who supports the NRA. The PAC more than likely is a secular progressive liberal group attacking a fellow liberal, not because she supports the NRA, but because she is a senior white person. Remember the “old white men” story.
Now, it doesn’t matter what gender or political party you belong to. It appears the secular progressive liberals have put aside their copy of the “Manifesto” by Karl Marx and opened up “Mien Kampf” by Adolf Hitler. They are blaming the older generation for the country’s problems (replacing the Jewish people Hitler used and sacrificed).
Folks, we’ve got to vote these guys out of power quickly. Let’s start by getting the Senate back in control by putting in conservatives, tea partiers or even libertarians. It sure would be nice to combine all of these groups into one stronger and smarter Republican Party. Any ideas on how we could do this? Let’s hear your suggestions.
One of my senior friends was saying he supported doing away with assault weapons. I asked him if he read the article in The Herald-News about how much the state has cut it mental health programs.
The liberal media, following orders from the White House, wants to keep up the pressure on gun control. Don’t deviate from the game plan; we must keep Americans away from thinking about the deficit, millions out of work, taxes and Obamacare. Continue pressuring gun control and immigration.
The secular progressives don’t want to take away our guns, they want to take away what they hate the most, our individual independence.
Enforce existing laws
We, in America, and particularly in the Chicago area, seem to have a litigious mentality. Any time we see an injustice of any kind, our thoughts seem to turn immediately to lawsuits or new legislation.
It’s time we stopped and looked at the obvious facts before jumping to conclusions. Recently and tragically, Hadiyah Pendleton was shot to death, for no reason, while she waited at a bus stop. This was an illegal act.
That seems obvious, but let me say it again. What the perpetrators did was illegal. Passing new gun control laws will have absolutely no impact on the perpetrators of this crime, who are very unlikely to be in possession of a FOID card and city permit required to be in possession of a handgun. They are definitely not in possession of a concealed carry permit, as Illinois currently does not allow concealed weapons.
If we pass laws to make assault weapons and high-capacity magazines illegal, criminals will still use illegally owned low-capacity magazines to do drive-by shootings with illegally owned handguns.
What tighter gun control laws will do is guarantee that their law-abiding victims are unarmed. This kind of thinking is why we have 200 million laws on the books to enforce Ten Commandments. Illinois, and Chicago, in particular, have some of the tightest gun control laws in the country, and yet our murder rate is almost twice that of New York, because we are not enforcing the existing laws effectively. I think we should focus on enforcement and better policing, now passing new laws.
