Marc Trestman named Bears coach? Not so fast, Jimmy

At 4:37 a.m., from his verified Twitter account, former head coach and Fox NFL analyst Jimmy Johnson posted a puzzling message that set the popular social media website abuzz Friday morning.
“Looks like [two] of my guys getting NFL jobs... Chud Cleveland and my QB coach at U Trestman to Chicago,” Johnson wrote.
Rob Chudzinski was named the Cleveland Browns head coach Thursday evening, and he conducted his introductory press conference this morning.
But Marc Trestman to the Bears?
That hasn’t happened, although Trestman is a candidate to replace Lovie Smith as Bears head coach.
A source familiar with the process told the Sun-Times Trestman has not been informed of a decision.
In an email to the Montreal Gazette on Friday, Trestman wrote, “I have not heard from the Bears and have responded in that manner on multiple levels.”
The Bears declined comment about Johnson’s Twitter post, which is consistent with their policy for this search. Last year, during the general manager search, the Bears announced and confirmed information. But this go around, they are not.
But indications are, the Bears search is ongoing and Trestman isn’t set to be hired. Bears general manager Phil Emery has several more interviews lined up: Houston Texans offensive coordinator Rick Dennison tonight in Houston, Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell in Atlanta Saturday and Indianapolis Colts offensive coordinator Bruce Arians in Indianapolis Sunday. In addition, Emery will interview Minnesota Vikings assistants Mike Preifer and Mike Singletary in Atlanta sometime this weekend, presumably before leaving the southern city for Indianapolis.
Emery noted during his press conference two days after the 2012 season ended that he planned to do an extensive search then bring two or three finalists to Halas Hall to visit with team chairman George McCaskey and president Ted Phillips.
