College Baseball
Lewis 3-0, Indianapolis 2-1: Drew Buddle scored twice to aid visiting Lewis (20-8, 11-5) in the nine-inning opener of the Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader. Tom Helwich (3-0) earned the win and Drew Hicks registered the final four outs in notching his fourth save. Pat Lahey (2-2) went the route for the Flyers in the seven-inning nightcap, allowing an unearned run on three hits.
St. Francis 7, Holy Cross (Ind.) 6: Brandon Mendoza’s RBI single in the bottom of the eighth capped a three-run rally for St. Francis (23-10, 13-3) in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference. Jesse Gregurich, who scored the winning run, added two hits and two RBI for the Saints.
College Softball
Lewis 8-2, Northern Kentucky 7-0: Kelly Bowler (7-4) pitched a four-hitter to give visiting Lewis (20-21, 12-14) a sweep in the Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader. The Flyers took Game 1 in 10 innings as Jessica Rourke scored the winning run on a wild pickoff attempt. Michelle Vucsko was the offensive standout for Lewis, hitting a three-run homer and a two-run double.
Iowa Wesleyan Classic: St. Francis (15-19) split its two games, beating Mount Mercy (Iowa) 4-1 and losing to William Penn (Iowa) 5-4.
