Thompson, a senior catcher, enjoys going to movies and bowling with friends.

How pumped up is the team to play Wednesday at Joliet Central?

We’re really excited. We’re just ready to come out and play our best and hopefully get a “W”.

This is your first season playing on the West varsity. How has that been?

I didn’t play last year because I had transferred from Minooka. So it’s amazing to be playing again after not playing my junior year. It’s awesome to be playing with the girls.

How did you start catching?

I actually started out as a pitcher. I played with (West pitcher) Katie McKay since I was about 11. I had a good arm, so I stared catching then. Now I have a passion for it and I can’t imagine any other position.

Your coach, Heather Suca was an outstanding player for Joliet Township in the late ’90s, helping the Steelmen go downstate in 1998. Does she tell the team about those days?

Yes, and now that Serena Cruz is our assistant coach and took Suca’s place at third base on the (2000) state title team, they go back and forth and have that dynamic. Then Mr. (Jim) Brumund gets involved and it’s a lot of fun.

If you could trade places with a teammate for one day, who would it be and why?

Tresa Fahrner, because she’s so amazingly fast. I’d bunt and steal and do anything that I could with her speed, since being as slow as I am, I can’t now.

If you could take one celebrity to prom, who would it be?

Reggie Bush. I think he’s awesome, a great athlete, and he’s gorgeous.
