Even the cold, blustery conditions couldn’t stop Jilian Hetfleisch.
Hetfleisch scored two goals and assisted on another to power visiting Minooka past Romeoville 4-0 in Southwest Prairie action Thursday night.
“We wanted to come out here and get a few things done,” Minooka coach Chris Brolley said. “We wanted to focus on set plays and really possess the ball.”
The Indians (3-8-3, 1-2) clearly were the more aggressive team from the opening whistle. Hetfleisch wasted no time as she took a pass to the middle of the field and rifled home a left-footer from 20 yards out inside the right post for a 1-0 lead with 37:01 left in the half.
“Someone passed to me and I dribbled and took my left foot in the corner,” Hetfleisch, a forward, said.
The Indians’ dribbling and accurate passing kept the possession in the Spartans zone for the next several minutes. Minooka was awarded a penalty kick when midfielder Marisol Galvan was taken down in the box.
Hetfleisch took the penalty kick and converted off the left post for a 2-0 lead with 23:56 remaining before halftime.
“We have been doing really good lately at passing the feet and growing as a team,” Hetfleisch said. “I think we are growing as a team and learning how to play together. It’s good.”
“She (Hetfleisch) is one of the top players in the area and she did a good job tonight,” Brolley said.
Romeoville (4-8, 0-5) used the wind to its advantage in the second half as the Spartans had pressure early against Minooka but never could mount a serious attack.
“We didn’t get the ball down into their end enough times and when we did, we didn’t finish,” Romeoville coach Adele Wallace said.
Hetfleisch dribbled past a couple of Spartans defenders and placed a perfect pass to the foot of Alysha Alonzo for an easy tap-in goal and a commanding 3-0 lead.
“We are a pretty quick team,” Brolley said. “We use it to our advantage and play the ball out wide.”
Galvan scored Minooka’s fourth goal with 23:15 left in the match.
