Baseball

No. 2 Providence 8, St. Rita 0: David Hearne (3-1) tossed a two-hitter and struck out six to guide host Providence (17-6, 8-2) in the Catholic League Blue. Zak Kutsulis and Dylan Rosa led the offense with two RBI apiece.

No. 3 Joliet Catholic 7-8, St. Patrick 1-2: Nick Dalesandro (3-for-3) and Chris Tschida (2-for-4) each contributed a run and an RBI for visiting Joliet Catholic (16-5-1, 5-1) in the East Suburban Catholic opener. Cal Placher gave up four hits and struck out six in pitching a complete game for the Hilltoppers. Ryan Peter and Adam Collins each scored twice in Game 2 for Joliet Catholic, while Zach Melone went 3-for-3 with a run and an RBI. Matt Testa and John Chignoli combined on a five-hitter for the winners.

Softball

Washington (Ill.) Invitational

Washington (Ill.) 4, Joliet West 2: Tresa Fahrner contributed a single and home run for Joliet West (13-13) in its tournament finale. Jordan Davis added two hits for the Tigers, who split their four games in the two-day event.

Barrington 1, Joliet West 0: Fahrner and Katie McKay had hits for Joliet West in the third-round game.

Boys Volleyball

Hersey Invitational: Lincoln-Way West (20-2) won all five of its matches to capture the tournament crown. Grayson Dewey dished out 57 assists and Joel McGuire added 44 kills for the Warriors, who closed with a 25-27, 26-24, 17-15 win over Hersey. Other standouts for Lincoln-Way West included Dominic Prospero (54 assists) and Dave O’Brien (38 kills, 24 digs, 13 blocks).

Boys Tennis

Lincoln-Way East Invitational: Joliet Catholic’s Zach Siegfried and Nate Nall won the title at No. 2 doubles by virtue of a 6-7 (6), 6-3, 11-9 decision over Lemont’s Tom Folliard and Jake Smagacz. Lemont (38 points) finished second behind Marian Catholic (56) in the 24-team meet. Lincoln-Way East Black was fourth.

Badminton

Southwest Prairie Meet: Jean Bernasol won the championship at No. 2 singles in helping Plainfield North (43) finish second behind Oswego (46). Plainfield East (19) was third and Romeoville (16) fourth in the seven-team meet. Kyndal Currie (No. 3) and Stephanie Palumbo (No. 4) captured singles crowns for Plainfield North and also teamed for a victory at No. 1 doubles. Plainfield East’s Lakshmi Tatineni captured first place at No. 1 singles.

Boys Track & Field

Palatine Relays: Bolingbrook won the triple jump relay (121 feet, 83/4 inches). Overall, the Radiers (77 points) finished third behind Fremd (126.5) and Palatine (121) among the 13 competing squads.

College Baseball

St. Francis 2-4, Robert Morris 1-7: Host St. Francis (33-15, 23-7) finished the regular season with a split in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference twin-bill. Joe Ruge had a pair of RBI singles in the opener for the Saints, the last coming in the sixth inning to snap a 1-all tie. Matt Huck (7-1) pitched 61/3 innings for the winners, allowing two hits and striking out seven. Corey Schultz notched the save. Mike Witas belted a two-run single for St. Francis in the second game.

Bellarmine (Ky.) 4-5, Lewis 1-2: Michael Schroeder delivered an RBI single for host Lewis (29-15, 18-12) in Game 1 of the Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader. Kyle Kapka had a sacrifice fly in the nightcap for the Flyers.

College Softball

GLVC Tournament

Indianapolis 5, Lewis 2: Mary Giancarlo hit a home run and Lauren Hanford added an RBI single to spark Lewis (31-23) in the third-round game in East Peoria.
