Estrada, a senior, runs on the 400-, 800- and 1,600-meter relay teams. The 1,600 relay set a school record (4:00.9) while taking first at last week’s Southwest Prairie Conference meet.

Favorite event?

I mostly like relays. I guess it puts more pressure on me to run faster. It’s more fun for me. I don’t like running by myself.

What got you interested in track?

I’ve been doing it since fifth grade in Channahon. My brother used to do it and my sisters, so I thought I would do it, too. It looked like fun.

Are you in other sports at Minooka?

I used to do tennis. I was thinking about cross country this year, but I was working and wanted to save my money so I could have time to do track.

What have you enjoyed the most about track?

Being with friends, being able to do something together as a team. I’ve known Lauren Jonen since sixth grade. I’ve been running with her since then.

What would you like to see the team accomplish?

I want the 4-by-200 and the 4-by-400 to go downstate this year. I just want everyone to do good and do the best they can do, try and break some records.

What college will you attend?

Western Illinois. They have a really good criminal justice program. I don’t think I’m going to run track. I know I’m going to miss it a lot, but I’m going to try and focus on school.

What will you remember about your years at Minooka?

Probably going to state. It’s so much fun because you’re with your team members. You get to spend the weekend in the dorms and run on the (Eastern Illinois) track. I went sophomore year and junior year.

Who’s the one person you’d like to have a conversation with?

My Uncle Jesse. I think about him a lot. He passed away a couple of years ago. He used to be a big part of my life. When people are there, you don’t appreciate them as much as you should.
