The 6-foot-5 Friend is a dual threat at both tight end and defensive back. His versatility is probably what attracted Big Ten schools, with Indiana winning the recruiting battle for Friend’s services. Friend also had offers from Purdue, Minnesota and Boston College.
Why did you choose Indiana?
I have a lot of family who went there and I like the way coach (Kevin) Wilson talks about their program. I feel like he’s really going to turn it around.
What attracts you to playing in the Big Ten?
Being from the Midwest, I’ve always watched it and it’s something I’ve always wanted to do. Big Ten football is one of the best (in the country).
Where do you see yourself five years from now?
Hopefully, I’m still playing football at Indiana or somewhere else. (Playing after college) is definitely a goal of mine.
If you could take anyone to prom, who would it be?
Brooklyn Decker, for sure, because she’s very good looking.
Ten years from now, what are some stories about your coach you’re going to share with your former teammates?
Our offensive coordinator, coach (Bill) Lauer was our freshman/sophomore coach and he’s been with our class every year and he’s awesome. Everyone loves him. But our offensive line coach (John Wodziak) is a big guy and has this huge, deep voice and is always making everybody laugh.
What reality show would you try out for?
“Survivor”. I think it would be cool to go out there and try to win that, I think it would be pretty sweet. I don’t watch that much TV, but when it’s on I try to watch it because I find it pretty interesting.
