A senior outside hitter, Austin will play volleyball at Northern Illinois.

What opponent would you want on your team?

It’s between Morris’ Kendall Korte or Lockport’s Aubrey Ficek. Kendall is an all-around player who knows how to have fun, and Aubrey is competitive. I love competitive people.

What don’t fans know about volleyball?

You can’t just be a one-dimensional player. You have to be an all-around player with power, speed and agility. It really is bump, set, spike, but it’s the intensity of the game that brings the heat to it.

What’s your favorite reality show?

(MTV’s) “Snooki & JWoww”. Those are my girls.

Who is your celebrity prom date?

The Weeknd. He’s an R&B singer from Canada, and I love him so much.

You’re on a deserted island and can never run out of one food. What do you pick?

Pizza from Cemenos. I love that pizza. If I could levitate the whole place to the island, even the employees, I’d pick that.

What’s your favorite sports movie?

“Bring It On”. It’s a classic, and I love it.

So cheerleading is a sport?

Oh, yeah. I’m one of those girls. I was a cheerleader for seven years of my life before I decided to focus on volleyball.

What will you remember most about Joliet Central?

Definitely my coach (Suzzie Bambule). She pushes me. She knows I’m one of the better players out on the court, but she will kick my butt in practice. “You’re good, but you’re not got great!” She really knows how to keep a person in-tune with the game and how to keep them laughing at the same time.

As told to Tim O’Brien
