High School/Local College Sports Roundup for Sept. 11, 2012

Girls Volleyball

No. 1 Joliet Catholic 25-25, Bolingbrook 12-13: Julia Shemaitis totaled 19 service points and seven aces to lead host Joliet Catholic (9-1). Morgan Reardon tacked on 11 kills for the Angels.

No. 6 Lemont 25-25, Evergreen Park 16-9: Kelly Ferguson had seven kills and Megan Litoborski added 23 assists for visiting Lemont (8-3, 3-1) in the South Suburban crossover.

No. 7 Morris 26-25, Kaneland 24-21: Joanna Nowicki’s 10 kills led host Morris (10-3, 1-0) in the Northern Illinois Big 12 East.

No. 9 Minooka 26-25, Oswego 26-24, 25-21: Skyler Day had 11 kills and seven digs for host Minooka (6-4, 2-1) in the Southwest Prairie.

Manteno 25-25, Reed-Custer 22-17: Marian Barton provided 16 kills and 15 digs for host Reed-Custer (5-5, 1-2) in the Interstate Eight.

Coal City 25-25, Sandwich 15-16: Kassie Aldridge had 16 assists to aid host Coal City (5-4, 2-1) in the Interstate Eight.

Plainfield South 25-24-25, Plainfield Central 15-26-22: Visiting Plainfield South prevailed in the Southwest Prairie. Hannah Evatt had 11 assists for Plainfield Central (1-7, 0-3) and Elizabeth Hyland added 10 kills.

Boys Soccer

Providence 2, Joliet West 2: Ben Salvador had both goals for visiting Providence (6-3-2).

Reed-Custer 9, Wilmington 2: B.J. Bailey netted a hat trick to power host Reed-Custer (5-5-1, 3-3) in the Interstate Eight.

Andrew 1, Lincoln-Way East 0: Jesus Mendez’s goal sank visiting Lincoln-Way East (4-2-3) in the SouthWest Suburban crossover.

Pepsi Showdown

Plainfield Central 5, Lisle 1: Miguel Sanchez contributed two goals and an assist for host Plainfield Central (3-4-1).

Boys Golf

Lemont 159, Tinley Park 196: Matt Groebe, of Lemont, carded a 38 to capture medalist honors in the South Suburban Blue dual at Odyssey Country Club in Tinley Park.

Dwight co-op triangular: Blake Huseman shot a team-best 43 as Dwight co-op (181) finished second behind Pontiac (170) at Dwight Country Club. Bishop McNamara (183) also competed.

Girls Golf

Lemont 172, Lisle 205: Lemont’s Nicole Fardig shot a 40 to win medalist honors at Woodbine.

Plainfield South 208, Plainfield North 219: Medalist Alex Catalano (45) sparked Plainfield South in the Southwest Prairie meet at Wedgewood.

Joliet Catholic triangular: Medalist Claire O’Connor posted a 39 to lead Joliet Catholic (187) past Joliet Township co-op (194) and Beecher (218) at Woodruff. Milena Singletary led Township co-op with a 44.

Minooka 191, Plainfield Central 204: Minooka’s Rachel Herzberger shot a 45 to win medalist honors in the Southwest Prairie meet at Heritage Bluffs.

Girls Tennis

Lemont 5, Oak Forest 0: Ilona LaRoche won at top-seeded singles for visiting Lemont in the South Suburban Blue.

Nazareth 3, Providence 2: Hannah Davis and Lizzie Eggen prevailed at No. 3 doubles for host Providence in the East Suburban Catholic.

Boys Cross Country

Reavis quadrangular: Aaron Oldanie won the 3-mile race in 17 minutes, 12 seconds in guiding Lemont (27 points) over South Suburban foes Reavis (63), Tinley Park (66) and T.F. South (76).

Girls Cross Country

Reavis quadrangular: Lemont (16) won first place behind Claire Gagen, who completed the 3-mile course in 20:23. Reavis (47), T.F. South (85) and Tinley Park (120) also competed in the South Suburban meet.

Girls Swimming

Lemont 109, Oak Lawn 60: Annette Lesnicki won the 200-yard freestyle (2 minutes, 8.77 seconds) for host Lemont in the South Suburban crossover.

Men’s Golf

Green Bay Invitational: Lewis (619) finished second behind Indianapolis (597) in the two-day event. The Flyers were led by Alex Thode, who was fifth with an 8-over 152.

Women’s Golf

Green Bay Invitational: Alexandra O’Loughlin shot a team-best 153 for Lewis (655), which was sixth in the two-day tournament.

Women’s Volleyball

Lewis 25-25-25, Olivet Nazarene 17-11-23: Ashley Richards set up 32 assists and Paige Reinert had 11 kills to pace host St. Francis (11-2, 3-0) in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference.
