Chris Kaminski

Jr., Cross Country,
Lincoln-Way Central

After leading Central to the 2011 Class 3A state meet in Peoria, Kaminski expects to improve on his Detweiller Park time of 15 minutes, 42 seconds.

“By the end of the season I want to be around 14:40, 14:45,’’ he said. “I made a big jump last year in track, my 2-mile time. I would like to be around the top 25 in state.’’

Kaminski finished 22nd at the Peoria Invitational on Sept. 8 to lead the Knights to ninth place among 37 teams.

Bianca Wiemeyer

Jr., Cross Country,
Lockport

Wiemeyer is the leading returnee from the team that was 14th in the 2011 Class 3A state meet, best among local schools.

“I want to break 18 minutes,” said Wiemeyer, who clocked 18:40 at the 2011 state meet. “I like being with the team. They help me push myself to be a better runner.”

Lockport coach Evon Marie Schlotter said Wiemeyer “has one speed, going as fast as she can go.’’

Kyle Yaeger

Sr., Golf, Lockport

Yaeger, one of the top players on a deep Lockport squad, paced the Porters to a sectional berth last season. He also finished seventh in the SouthWest Suburban Blue.

“I want to play well and have fun,” he said. “We’ve got a pretty laid-back team. We’re hopeful we can make it downstate.”

Yaeger began golfing as a freshman after knee injuries forced him to withdraw from more physically demanding sports. He’s hoping to golf in college and has looks from Carthage and William Penn.

Laura Ringo

Soph., Golf, Lemont

As a freshman, Ringo helped the Indians take second at regionals with an 86, her season-best score.

She’s superstitious.

“If I’m eating during a match or wearing a sweater and I play well, I’ll keep doing it,” she said.

Ringo first golfed at a Cog Hill camp when she was 11.

“I was playing softball before I golfed, and I thought golf was going to have the same kind of swing,” Ringo said. “It was nothing like softball.”
