As far as Lincoln-Way West sophomore Alexis Biedrzycki is concerned, pressure as the reigning SouthWest Suburban Red champion comes with the territory.

“I feel like when you win once, everyone expects you to win again,” Biedrzycki said. “But I knew if I played like I can play, I’d be good.”

And good she was.

Biedrzycki took home her second SWSC Red crown with a 1-over 73 on the South Course at Silver Lakes Country Club on Thursday.

She battled back from two bogeys over her first three holes to beat out Lincoln-Way North’s Margaret Curtin (74) and Stagg’s Taylor Lambertsen (79).

“People kind of know my background, the tournaments I play in and they type of player I am,” Biedrzycki said. “I don’t want to go out there and play bad because I feel that I’m going to be disappointed in myself. People are going to say, ‘Oh, she’s not that good.’ I know you can’t think about that stuff, but there is a little bit more pressure.”

Biedrzycki shot a 35 over the back nine, crediting improved performance off the tee for her rebound from a sluggish start.

“I got my confidence back with my driver,” Biedrzycki said. “I was driving the ball really well, and towards the middle of the round I was hitting it 250, 260 (yards) off the tee.”

Biedrzycki led West (384) to a third-place finish. Lincoln-Way North (352) took top honors, followed by Stagg (359).

Lincoln-Way Central (408) placed fourth behind an 87 and sixth-place finish from Clara Scheer.

“I did not expect this at all,” Scheer said. “This is one of the better rounds I’ve ever had. Everything just seemed to work out for me today.”
