Girls Volleyball: Lincoln-Way Central’s Kaitlyn Siadek battles through ankle injury

Lincoln-Way Central’s Kaitlyn Siadek has a bit of a love-hate relationship with her ankles.
Her left ankle never provides any problems. Her right ankle? That’s a different story.
The senior setter sprained her right ankle in a match against Chicago Christian at the McAuley Preview in September but since has missed just part of one match.
“I’ve had multiple rolled ankles, even a severe one last year, and the right one is just weaker than the other,” Siadek said. “I got it taped up really good, and I was able to play on it. It was a mixture of frustration it happened and the thought I was going to push through the pain no matter how much it hurt.”
Taking the court with her injured ankle, Siadek is among the area leaders in assists (344) for a Knights team that takes a 14-5 record into Tuesday’s match against visiting Joliet Central.
Two-plus weeks since the injury, the setter continues strengthening the ankle. The pain has subsided to the point where it does not affect her on the court. She had 30 assists in a two-set win over Bolingbrook.
“There are things to work on,” Siadek said. “We don’t want to be content with where we’re at. We’ve got to push harder. We haven’t peaked yet.”
Bolingbrook eyeing .500
Returning several key players from a 14-21 team, Bolingbrook came into this season with a .500 record as a team goal.
After a loss at Lincoln-Way Central, the Raiders’ record sits at 10-9 with less than three weeks to go before the end of the regular season.
“The team has confidence in themselves,” Bolingbrook coach Andrea Bercot said. “If we do lose, they’re putting it all out there. They’re disciplined, and they’re just a tough group.”
Bercot mentioned the strong play of outside hitters Ciara Hill and Krissa Gearring and setters Marisa Markus and Alexa Piekarski.
Volley for the Cure
Both Lemont and Plainfield South will host Volley for the Cure matches this week.
Lemont welcomes Oak Forest on Tuesday while Plainfield South meets Plainfield Central on Thursday.
