Boys Soccer: Lemont triumphs behind Trifunovski’s hat trick

Lemont assistant coach Mark Tomczak said the Indians “couldn’t serve a ball at all” Tuesday in a costly loss to Reavis.
Wednesday, Lemont had no problem serving the ball in the direction of Teddy Trifunovski, who capitalized with the game of his life.
Trifunovski recorded his first hat trick, doing all the scoring in the host Indians’ 3-0 win over Tinley Park.
“It was a good feeling,” he said. “I had a lot of room in the box and my teammates made some great crosses to me so I didn’t have to do much.”
Lemont (14-3-5, 9-2) struck first in the 17th minute when Christian Goushas was left alone in the corner and found Trifunovski unmarked in the middle of the box where he headed it home.
Tinley Park (10-12-1, 3-7) hung tough and nearly found the equalizer when Bobby Neylon sent a shot just high, but the Indians delivered a backbreaker in the final seconds of the half.
Tommy Gasienica set up Trifunovski, who was left open at the far post and finished with 24 seconds left before the break.
Trifunovski scored on a header off a Roy Delatore pass in the second half to close the scoring.
Tuesday’s shootout defeat against Reavis kept the Indians from sealing a share of the South Suburban Blue title Wednesday. Lemont’s only hope for a share now is for Bremen to be upset by T.F. co-op Thursday.
“We lost a rough one (Tuesday) so it was good to bounce back and hopefully we can take this momentum into the playoffs,” said Tomczak, filling in for Indians head coach Rick Prangen, who missed the game due to the birth of his second child.
Piotr Okon had four saves and the shutout for Lemont.
Dan Daluga made five saves for the Titans.
“The worst thing is numbers wise, we should have matched up perfectly with them,” Tinley Park coach Mike Boniface said. “But we get on this college length and college width field, and we can’t do anything.”
