High School Sports Roundup for Oct. 12, 2012

Boys Golf

Class 3A Tournament: Trent Wallace, of Joliet Central co-op, finished tied for 20th place after shooting a 5-over-par 77 at The Den at Fox Creek in Bloomington. Remaining area competitors were Providence’s Mickey Brick (79), Lincoln-Way East’s Matt Stoner (82), Minooka’s Jason Chobar and Lockport’s Nick Petrakos (87). Medalist honors were shared by Deerfield’s Ian Kelsey and New Trier’s Jack Junge (71 each). Hinsdale Central (306) won the team title.

Class 1A Tournament: Kiefer Kious, of Dwight co-op, tied for 46th after carding an 83 at Prairie Vista in Bloomington. Downstate Washington (340) won the team crown, while Normal U-High’s Adam Baracani (72) was the medalist.

Girls Golf

Class 2A Tournament: Alexis Biedrzycki of Lincoln-Way West shot a 2-over-par 75 at the Hickory Point Golf Course in Decatur and finished the first round tied for fourth place, three strokes behind leader Stephanie Miller of Stevenson. Bridget Lynn of Lemont ended the day with an 85, which tied her for 50th in the field. In the team competition, Lincoln-Way East shot a 359 and entered Saturday’s second round in 12th place.

Football

No. 5 Morris 28, Rochelle 21: Touchdowns by quarterback Zach Cinnamon and running back Collin Grogan propelled visiting Morris (8-0, 4-0) in the Northern Illinois Big 12 East.

No. 6 Lemont 47, Bremen 7: Chris Giatras had 28 carries for 230 yards and four touchdowns in leading host Lemont (7-1, 4-1) in the South Suburban Blue. Indians quarterback Zach Brosseau (10-of-15, 159 yards) added a 5-yard scoring pass to Drew Slee.

Plano 24, Wilmington 20: Chris Tworek (19 carries, 82 yards) contributed two touchdown runs for visiting Wilmington (6-2, 5-1) in the Interstate Eight crossover. Sean Liaromatis aided the cause for the Wildcats by throwing a 32-yard scoring pass to Nick Anderson.

Herscher 31, Seneca 23: Bo Taylor had touchdown runs of 50 and 55 yards to lead visiting Seneca (4-4, 4-2) in the Interstate Eight crossover. Quarterback Peyton Schrag added a 3-yard scoring run for the Fighting Irish.

Coal City 31, Westmont 14: Ryland Tondini’s 97-yard touchdown run sparked host Coal City (7-1, 5-1) in the Interstate Eight. Tondini also had a 29-yard scoring scamper in the fourth quarter that enabled him to reach the 200-yard mark for the game.

Manteno 44, Dwight 6: Triston Dircks had a 25-yard touchdown run for visiting Dwight (0-8, 0-6) in the Interstate Eight crossover.

Sandwich 68, Reed-Custer 14: Mark Harper threw a pair of touchdown passes, including a 76-yarder to Dalton Kinzler, to pace visiting Reed-Custer (1-7, 1-5) in the Interstate Eight crossover. Kinzler finished with 120 yards on six receptions.

Peotone 35, Lisle 12: Host Peotone (4-4, 2-4) was a winner in the Interstate Eight crossover.

Boys Soccer

Class 2A Lincoln-Way West Regional

Joliet Catholic 2, Kankakee 0: Visiting Joliet Catholic prevailed in the quarterfinal.
