Boys Cross Country
Class 3A Andrew Regional: Lincoln-Way East (44) advanced to the sectional after finishing second behind Thornwood (37) at Turtlehead Lake in Orland Park. The Griffins were led by Luke Johnston (16:01), who came in third, two spots ahead of teammate Ben Walczak.
Class 3A Minooka Regional: Minooka’s Joey Santillo (15:11) bested teammate Alex Pierce (15:25) for medalist honors at Channahon Community Park. Lincoln-Way Central’s Dru Rozewicki (15:40) was third, followed by Joliet Central’s Salvador Lazaro (15:44) and Minooka’s Cam Knudsen (15:48). Lincoln-Way Central (38) won the team title by eight points over runner-up Minooka (46). Fifth-place Joliet Central (127) and sixth-place Joliet West (142) also qualified for the sectional.
Class 2A Morris Regional: Providence’s Steve Sismelich (16:07) was the top finisher, besting runner-up Ryan Kennedy (16:34) of Lincoln-Way West and third-place occupant Justin Sjostrom (16:35) of Morris. Lincoln-Way West (32) was the champion, Morris (60) took third and Providence (101) was fourth.
Class 2A Wheaton Academy Regional: Aaron Oldanie (16:33) sparked Lemont (85), which made it to the sectional after placing third.
Class 1A Aurora Christian Regional: Joliet Catholic (134) was a sectional qualifier after coming in fourth. Zach Siegfried (16:54.3), who came in 20th, was the top finisher for the Hilltoppers.
Class 1A Bishop McNamara Regional: Gardner-South Wilmington’s Lane Hoffman (16:30) was runner-up in guiding the Panthers (90) to a fourth-place finish and a spot in the sectional. Peotone’s Gabe Hartnett (17:02) was sixth individually.
Class 1A St. Bede Regional: Ross McCormick (16:44) was fifth in leading Seneca (130) to a fifth-place finish and a berth in the sectional meet.
Girls Cross Country
Class 3A Andrew Regional: Samantha Ostmann (18:59) and Kaley McLawhorn (19:09) were the top two runners in guiding Lincoln-Way East (27) to the title at Turtlehead Lake.
Class 3A Minooka Regional: Minooka (37) won the team crown as Caleigh Beverly (18:46) and Morgan Crouch (18:46) finished fourth and fifth, respectively. The next two spots were held by Alena Pacheco and Elizabeth Venezio (18:57 each), who helped Lincoln-Way Central (59) finish third. Sixth-place Joliet West (155) also moved on to the sectional round.
Class 2A Morris Regional: Providence (44) won first place ahead of runner-up Lincoln-Way West (56), which produced the medalist in Natalie Waters (18:15). Morris (116) also qualified for the sectional after finishing fourth.
Class 2A Riverside-Brookfield Regional: Joliet Catholic (70) advanced to the sectional with a third-place finish. The Angels were led by Alex Blotnik (19:48.4), who was third.
Class 2A Wheaton Academy Regional: Claire Gagen (18:58) was the top individual for Lemont (124), which made it to the sectional by placing fifth.
Class 1A Bishop McNamara Regional: Gardner-South Wilmington (130) made it to the sectional after placing fifth. The Panthers were led by Kitrina Hayner (23:51), who was 23rd.
Class 1A St. Bede Regional: Seneca’s Caroline Collett (20:11) came in fourth. As a team, the Fighting Irish totaled 131 points in finishing sixth.
Lyons Tournament: No. 9 Minooka lost four of five matches, its only win being a 25-17, 25-20 decision over Prospect.
