Lockport bowler Shane Matejcak had a high game of 279 last season. He nearly topped that in his first game of the season Monday night.
Matejcak started with an open frame before reeling off 10 straight strikes on his way to a 275 in the opener. He finished with the three-game high series of 688 as the Porters topped Plainfield Central 3,148-2,938 in a season opener for both teams at Pioneer Lanes in Plainfield.
“It’s nice to kick it off with a good game,” Matejcak said. “We’ll see how it goes from here. I would consider it a good boost to start the season.”
The Porters won all three games, by scores of 1,102-1,013, 975-935 and 1,071-990.
The huge first game for Lockport was bolstered by the 275 from Matejcak plus a 236 from Brian Hodolitz (670 series) and a 212 from Alex Wilsem (618).
David Wysocki had a 537 series for the Porters. Johnny Kamba pitched in with a 241 in the final game.
Plainfield Central was paced by Charlie Rife, whose 629 series included a team-best 222 in Game 2. The Wildcats showed plenty of balance as Bryan Blair (576), Trevor Brander (572) and Tyler Allensworth (570). Dan York added a 217 in the final game.
“It was a tough match-up against a tough school like Lockport,” Central coach Gerry Oshita said. “We bowled well and we have eight new bowlers, so this was a good learning experience.”
