Dunnigan, a senior point guard, made everyone — especially himself — forget about an ACL tear he suffered his sophomore year. Dunnigan, finding himself finally at 100 percent, scored a game-high 31 points Saturday in the Tigers’ 63-56 upset over Bolingbrook in the Joliet West Tournament championship game. A Joliet native, Dunnigan scored 13 points alone in the fourth quarter and helped the Tigers improve to 4-0.
You are already off to a great start this season, but do you have a five-year plan?
I’m going to try to go to college for physical education or something in that field.
How old were you when you started playing basketball?
I was probably about 9 years old, and I started because everybody played it in the neighborhood.
Do you play anything else at Joliet West?
I used to play football but I had to stop when I got hurt. I was a sophomore and I tore my ACL.
Did it really bother you to give up football?
Not really, because I really like playing basketball instead — and our football team wasn’t really that good.
If you could play any sport at all, what would it be?
It would still be basketball.
When you were a kid growing up, what was the goofiest thing you wanted to be?
A clown.
What is something about you that people don’t know?
I can cook. I had a job at Bayside Fishery and Ribs in Joliet and I started cooking and I just kept at it.
What’s your specialty?
Chicken, any kind of chicken: wings, fried chicken.
As told to Tina Akouris
