Minooka certainly is not lacking for motivation as this season gets under way.

The Indians finished second in the state last season, just 22 pins behind Andrew.

How close was Minooka to the crown? Thunderbolts bowlers averaged 205.8 at state, while the Indians averaged 205.5.

“Our number this year is 22,” said senior Alison Warwick, who finished 23rd at state last season. “That’s how many pins we lost by. That’s our motivation. Our coach (Frank Yudzentis) keeps saying, ‘22, 22.’ ”

With Warwick, fellow senior Allyson Lakota and junior Emily Koulis as returning starters, Minooka is confident it can top last season’s performance, though the graduated Courtney Johnston (7th at state) and Danielle Musgrave (38th) will be tough to replace.

“I’m really excited,” Warwick said. “It’s my senior year and I’m really looking to do well.

“Our goal is to win state. Every year our expectation is to make it to state. This year, we’re really pushing ourselves to win it.”

The Indians took second behind Oswego East in Saturday’s Plainfield Central Wildcat Invitational. Koulis led the way, finishing fourth.
