Boys Basketball: Bolingbrook heeds wake-up call

Bolingbrook really needed a wake-up call, and Lincoln-Way Central was just the team to do it.
The Raiders, the area’s preseason No. 1, probably still were shaking off their first loss, to host Joliet West in the Tigers’ Thanksgiving tournament title game.
And the way the Raiders played in the first half Friday night at Lincoln-Way Central showed they maybe still were preoccupied with that game.
“I think we needed a little wake-up call that you can get beat at any time,” Bolingbrook coach Rob Brost said. “We need to learn time (clock management) and score better and be unselfish all the time.”
Despite the lack of focus against Lincoln-Way Central, the Raiders have had seven different players score in double figures through five games.
“Not too many teams can say that,” Brost said.
Ouch!
Bolingbrook star and SMU recruit Ben Moore took a hard hit in the game vs. Central with about eight seconds remaining, when he collided with an opposing player and flew into the padded wall behind the basket.
There was some debate between Brost, Moore and game officials that a foul should have been called, but none was.
“I’m not going to comment on it, but I thought it was a foul,” Brost said. “It doesn’t matter what I think, because I’m not (officiating).”
Tough crowd
Plainfield South first-year coach Tim Boe earned his first win of the season and as the Cougars coach Tuesday night as South beat Willowbrook 54-53. Miles Snowden made two free throws with two-tenths of a second left for Plainfield South. Snowden and Corey Evers each scored 16 points.
More than basketball
Tuesday at Romeoville was Hoops Night as part of its Best Buddies chapter. The Spartans entertained Lincoln-Way East.
Best Buddies is a volunteer organization that creates friendships, employment and leadership development for the developmentally disabled.
Romeoville’s chapter has more than 100 members.
