Lincoln-Way co-op still is searching for its identity, but a SouthWest Suburban Conference victory over Andrew Wednesday night was a promising sign.
Lincoln-Way won the showdown 128.75-121.55 in Frankfort, which helped take some of the sting out of a 10th-place finish Saturday in the 19-team Al Galatte Invitational.
Andrew’s Jamie Valla continued to dominate as she won all four events for an all-around score of 36.3. She scored a 9.4 on the floor exercise and 9.35 on the vault.
Lincoln-Way took the next for all-around team spots. Kaila Pohrte was second with a 34.95, followed by Sam Duggan (31.7), Shelby Witkor (31.5) and Mallory Winter (29.55).
“We didn’t have the best day Saturday and we weren’t too happy with that,” Pohrte said. “We saw things that we could improve on that we messed up on, which we usually hit, so if we improve on those things we know we can make an impact. We did better (Wednesday).”
Lincoln-Way coach Skip Adamson enjoyed his team earning a conference victory but expects more out of this season’s team down the line.
“It’s a start, but we had a lot of mistakes out of some people — that’s expected,” he said. “But we have a lot of meets in the next few weeks and we need to get better in a hurry.”
Andrew dropped a 124.55-122.80 decision Monday to Glenbard East and fell to 0-2 on the dual season after Wednesday’s loss. Coach Allison Hack was hoping a 1-2 punch of Valla and Emily Ronan could give the Thunderbolts some early wins, but Ronan was sidelined for the first two meets because of an illness and Hack is not sure when she will return.
Emily Berkheimer (29.5 all-around) and Val Nehls (28.7) put up solid numbers for the T-bolts.
Lockport entered individuals in the meet, with Kacie Kennedy finishing with a 33.05 all-around, including an 8.8 on the vault.
