High School/Local College Sports Roundup for Dec. 18, 2012

Boys Basketball

No. 10 Morris 65, Coal City 58: Ben Ortiz netted 21 points to pace host Morris (4-3). Jake Hogan added 16 points for the Redskins and Austin Patterson scored 14. Nick Peters had 15 points to guide Coal City (3-5).

Romeoville Christian 53, Somonauk Christian 27: Scott Brennwald’s 13 points keyed host Romeoville Christian (5-9).

Marquette 72, Dwight 55: Blake Huseman (22 points) and Caleb Boma (13) were the leading scorers for host Dwight (3-6).

Peotone 51, Gardner-South Wilmington 25: Josh Vincent posted 14 points and eight rebounds for visiting Peotone (6-4). Dalton Wright scored 13 points for Gardner-South Wilmington (0-10).

Girls Basketball

Wilmington 62, Illinois Lutheran 27: Tiffany Nugent scored 18 points and hauled in 11 rebounds to lift host Wilmington. Kaylie Davis added 17 points for the Wildcats.

Beecher 62, Reed-Custer 38: Courtney Welch recorded a game-high 28 points for visiting Reed-Custer.

Oak Lawn Tournament

No. 5 Romeoville 49, Simeon 38: Angelica Osusky poured in 19 points to show the way for Romeoville (11-1). Kiera Currie tacked on 11 points and 13 rebounds for the Spartans.

Boys Bowling

Minooka 3,485, Romeoville 3,137: John Kauffman rolled a 300 game and finished with an 802 series over three games to pace Minooka at Strike N Spare II. Zach Segatto added a 279 game and 724 series for the Indians in the Southwest Prairie meet. Jacob Young led Romeoville with a 275 game and 693 series.

Plainfield North 2,921, Plainfield Central 2,878: Eddie Pacetti’s meet-best 627 series sparked Plainfield North in the Southwest Prairie dual. Jeremiah Taylor tacked on a 594 series for the Tigers at Brunswick Zone XL in Romeoville.

Men’s Basketball

St. Francis 74, Holy Cross (Ind.) 67: Chris Miller provided 20 points and Billy Hubly chipped in 16 for visiting St. Francis (8-5, 6-3) in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Women’s Basketball

St. Francis 89, Holy Cross (Ind.) 81 (2 OTs): Katie Gonnering scored 28 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for visiting St. Francis (6-6, 6-3) in the CCAC. Debra Jenkins (21 points, 8 steals) and Ashley Teresiak (18 points, 12 rebounds) also starred for the Saints.
