High School/Local College Sports Roundup for Jan. 8, 2013

Boys Basketball

Aurora Central Catholic 51, Joliet Catholic 47: Ryan Peters and James Ragen each had 13 points for Joliet Catholic (4-15).

Romeoville Christian 59, Marquette Manor 45: Romeoville (6-9, 2-2 in the Northern Illinois Athletic Conference) got 20 points from Scott Brennwald and 15 from Luke Miller in the home win.

Andrew 60, Lincoln-Way East 42: Matt Baldridge had 11 points for East.

Bloom 53, Lockport 42: Lockport (5-10) lost at home despite 10 points each from Ryian Reed and Grover Alexander.

Boys Bowling

Joliet West 2,019, Lincoln-Way East 1,855: At Joliet’s Town & Country Lanes, Mickey Shanahan’s 289 game and 480 series led Joliet West to its eighth win in 10 SouthWest Suburban Blue matches.

Minooka 3,118, Plainfield Central 3,106: Central’s Ray Ciangiola had the high series with a 694, but Ryan Duggins led Minooka to the win with a 672 series and meet-high game of 259.

Lincoln-Way Central 1,806, Stagg 1,656: Ryan Fremgen’s high game of 224 and series of 436 led Lincoln-Way Central.

Romeoville 3,424, Plainfield South 2,756: Brandon Lisak-Talley had a 703 series and Dakota Vostry a 268 game to pace Romeoville at Lockport’s Strike N’ Spare II.

Hillcrest 2,778, Lemont 2,775: Lemont’s Ben Stech was the meet leader with a 677 series and 257 game.

Girls Basketball

No. 1 Plainfield East 50, Minooka 49: Plainfield East (15-2, 5-0) slipped out of Minooka with a win thanks to Nikia Edom’s 13 points and Nina Maggio’s nine.

No. 4 Lincoln-Way East 62, No. 10 Lincoln-Way Central 23: Meaghan McMahon had 17 points and Kara Krolicki 15 as East improved to 13-1 overall and 5-0 in the SouthWest Suburban Blue.

No. 5 Romeoville 57, Oswego East 33: Kiera Currie had 11 points for Romeoville (15-3) in Owego.

No. 8 Lemont 43, Reavis 38: Lemont (11-6, 5-1) got 16 points from Kim Jerantowski and 11 from Jenny Hennig.

Lincoln-Way North 48, Lincoln-Way West 38: North (15-3, 4-1 in the SouthWest Suburban Red) got 16 points each from Valerie Manns and Ashley Weiringa.

Lockport 68, Joliet Central 51: Nami Mayes had 18 points and Destiny Hollins 17 for Lockport. Chevon Banks had 15 points and 14 rebounds for Joliet Central.

Plainfield North 57, Plainfield South 36: Carlie Corrigan had 16 points, Jordan Heberg 15 and Tayler Weck 12, plus 10 rebounds, for the winning home team.

Oswego 55, Plainfield Central 48: Alexis Pease had 12 points as Central slipped to 3-13.

Girls Bowling

Lockport 2,040, Joliet West 1,968: Lockport was led to the win at Strike N’ Spare II by Megan Szczepanski’s 447 series and 247 game. Joliet West’s Taylor Bailey had the high marks for the match, with a 481 series and 269 game.

Lincoln-Way East 1,652, Joliet Central 1,634: Michelle Rybarczyk’s 216 game and 377 series led East to the win. Hannah Bolyn led Joliet Central with a 374 series.

Lincoln-Way West 1,698, Lincoln-Way Central 1,603: Lincoln-Way West won in SouthWest Suburban action.

Men’s Basketball

Roosevelt 67, St. Francis 66: Chris Miller’s 23 points weren’t enough for St. Francis (11-7, 7-5 in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference).

Women’s Basketball

Malcolm X 62, Joliet Junior College 43: Alana Warren had 17 points and Falon Edwards eight points and eight rebounds for JJC (3-12).

Roosevelt 71, St. Francis 61: LaTrece Harris had 17 points and nine rebounds in a losing effort for St. Francis (8-11, 7-5 CCAC).
