Katie Gonnering, Marissa Draper lead USF women to victory

Sophomore Katie Gonnering and senior Marissa Draper notched double-doubles as University of St. Francis defeated Indiana-South Bend 61-58 in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference women’s basketball action Thursday night at the Sullivan Center.

In a closely-contested game from start to finish, neither team led by more than five points.

USF (8-9, 7-3 CCAC) built a 30-27 edge at halftime. Indiana-South Bend (8-9, 4-6) held onto a small lead throughout most of the second half until a pair of free throws from freshman LaTrece Harris put the Saints on top 52-50 at the 4:44 mark.

The Titans had a chance to tie the game in the closing seconds but a three-point attempt fell off the rim and the Saints collected the rebound.

Gonnering finished with 24 points and 14 rebounds while Draper had 12 points and 10 boards.

Nichole Ely and Courtney Simpson paced Indiana-South Bend with 15 and 14 points, respectively.

USF returns to action Saturday when it hosts No. 10-ranked Olivet Nazarene at 1 p.m.
