High School/College Sports Roundup for Jan. 12, 2013

Girls Basketball

Geneseo 40, Morris 27: Julie Jurasits tallied 13 points for host Morris (4-13).

Interstate 8 Tournament

No. 6 Coal City 33, Westmont 32: Donjeta Shabani’s 14 points and five rebounds paced Coal City (16-3) in the championship bracket.

No. 7 Peotone 43, No. 9 Seneca 32: Peotone (16-5) advanced in the championship bracket as Kayla Paeth had 15 points and Caitlin Crawford nine. Shelby Maupin added 14 rebounds for the winners.

Reed-Custer 68, Dwight 53: Caitlyn Welch totaled 20 points and Ashley Headrick 14 for Reed-Custer in the consolation bracket. Lisa Bruner had 14 points and 11 rebounds and Regina Dawson nine points for Dwight (5-15).

Wilmington 47, Sandwich 36: Wilmington led 16-4 after one quarter in the consolation bracket.

Boys Basketball

Rich East 84, Plainfield East 72: Rich East (8-4) was victorious at the Naperville North Shootout behind Nick Horne (23 points) and Ron Lawton (19 points).

Morris 52, DeKalb 42: Morris prevailed on the road.

West Aurora 59, Lockport 19: The host Porters fell to 5-12.

Boys Bowling

SWSC Red: Lincoln-Way West totaled 6,440 pins at Town and Country Lanes in Joliet en route to its first conference title behind a 1-2-3 finish by Josh Glover (1,409, 300 game), Vince Paciune (1,333) and David Eggert (1,315). Andrew (6,129) claimed second place, ahead of Lincoln-Way North (5,558), Lincoln-Way Central (5,252) and Stagg (4,734).

SWSC Blue: Lockport romped to victory at Town and Country with a score of 6,746, beating Sandburg (6,200) and Lincoln-Way East (6,121). Brandon Torres of Sandburg captured the individual title (1,429) ahead of the Lockport duo of Shane Matejcak (1,428) and David Wysocki (1,352).

Girls Bowling

Fenton Invitational: Lockport captured the title with a pinfall of 5,958, edging out Leyden (5,939). Porters senior Bri Zabierek rolled a school-record 1,389 series that included games of 279 and 245. Lockport’s Megan Szczepanski was third with a 1,234. Lemont finished sixth as a team with a 5,166.

Wrestling

Batavia Invitational: Plainfield South finished fifth as Miguel Silva was the champion at 106 pounds and Danny Saracco took second at 170.

Lockport Mega-Duals: Plainfield Central defeated Geneva 48-15 and lost to Barrington 39-19 and Glenbard 47-22. In the win over Geneva, Jordan Dinoffria, Evan Walers and Andrew McAllister all prevailed via falls.

Men’s Basketball

Lewis 87, Rockhurst 52: Host Lewis (8-4, 2-2) prevailed in the Great Lakes Valley Conference as Ryan Jackson totaled 17 points and Julian Lewis 15 points and 14 rebounds.

Cardinal Stritch 80, St. Francis 72: Derek Semenas scored 21 points to help Cardinal Stritch (19-2, 15-0) beat St. Francis (12-8, 8-6) in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference. Chris Miller had 25 points for St. Francis.

Joliet Junior College 84, Madison 36: Pierre Jolly scored 21 points and Ben Daniel and Quinn Williams added 10 each to lead JJC (10-8, 2-0) over Madison (2-15, 0-2).

Women’s Basketball

Lewis 76, Rockhurst 67: Alexus Granger had 19 points and eight rebounds as host Lewis (10-2, 3-1) won in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.

Joliet Junior College 65, Madison 46: Alana Warren had 20 points and seven rebounds and Brianna Marble 14 points for host JJC (5-12, 2-0) in the N4C.

Cardinal Stritch 58, St. Francis 46: Katie Gonnering’s 22 points and 12 rebounds and Marissa Draper’s 12 points weren’t enough for host St. Francis (9-12, 8-6), which fell in the CCAC.
