Wrestling

Interstate Eight Meet: Coal City’s Cody Minnick ran his record to 36-0 by winning the championship at 106 pounds in the tournament at Reed-Custer. Wilmington (216) won the team title, its closest pursuer being Sandwich (169.5). Andy Rodawold (132), Sean Liaromatis (170), Dexter Fierro (182) and Derrick Romano (heavyweight) won their respective divisions for the champion Wildcats. Coal City (111.5) was sixth, the Coalers producing additional winners in Corey Jurzak (113) and Casey Brown (120). Dwight’s Mikal Kelly prevailed at 152 pounds.

Northern Illinois Big 12 Meet: Kenny Baldridge (120) won his weight class in leading Morris (82.5) to a seventh-place finish. The Redskins also received a second-place showing from Nik Countryman (182) and a third-place medal from Trevor Allbert (160). Sycamore (198.5) captured the team crown.

Boys Basketball

No. 6 Morris 48, Geneseo 43: Ben Ortiz provided 11 points and Jake Hogan had 10 for visiting Morris (10-7).

Waubonsie Valley 64, No. 9 Lincoln-Way East 50: Terrell Harper and David Paulsen had 10 points apiece for host Lincoln-Way East (8-8).

Galesburg Martin Luther King Tournament

No. 8 Minooka 65, Bloomington 56: Darrin Myers had 13 points for Minooka (12-7) in its second game of the day.

No. 8 Minooka 50, Galesburg 47: Adam Holstine’s 11 points guided Minooka in the early session.

Glenbard East Shootout

Glenbard East 71, Plainfield East 59: Aaron Jordan finished with 20 points to pace Plainfield East (7-10).

Interstate Eight Tournament

No. 7 Seneca 78, Reed-Custer 69: Jimmy David scored 19 points and Conlan Callahan added 18 in helping top-seeded Seneca (16-3) advance to the semifinal round. Reed-Custer fell to 6-15.

Westmont 59, No. 10 Wilmington 34: Dan O’Leary had 17 points and Nick Anderson chipped in 12 for Wilmington (11-10) in quarterfinal play.

Lisle 58, Coal City 34: Nick Peters scored nine points for Coal City (10-9) in the quarterfinal.

Peotone 47, Sandwich 33: Adam Slager and Josh Vincent posted 14 points each for Peotone (11-8) in the consolation semifinal.

Manteno 55, Dwight 42: Triston Dircks scored 14 points and Blake Huseman added 12 to pace Dwight (6-13) in the consolation semifinal.

W.W. South Martin Luther King Tournament

Palatine 76, Plainfield Central 59: Mitch Young’s 23 points were the most for Plainfield Central (6-10) in the first round.

Girls Basketball

Nazareth 41, No. 10 Providence 39: Alex Shermulis scored a team-high 10 points for visiting Providence (9-12, 1-4) in the East Suburban Catholic.

Lockport 43, Waubonsie Valley 17: Naomi Mayes scored 12 points to boost host Lockport (8-9).

Reed-Custer 57, Gardner-South Wilmington 38: Chelsea Schultz had 21 points for Gardner-South Wilmington (8-13, 5-4).

McDonald’s Shootout

No. 5 Romeoville 68, Geneva 58: Kiera Currie chalked up 25 points and Abby Smith scored 24 in directing Romeoville (19-3) at Willowbrook.

Martin Luther King Dream Classic

No. 3 Joliet Catholic 64, Richwoods 61: Nicole Ekhomu (20 points, 7 rebounds) and Jasmine Lumpkin (19 points, 15 rebounds) led Joliet Catholic (17-3) at Young. Mary Susan Rouse added 12 points for the Angels.

Sweet 16 Tournament

Maine South 49, No. 4 Lincoln-Way East 38: Kara Krolicki finished with 15 points to guide host Lincoln-Way East (15-3).

Boys Bowling

Sandburg Sectional: The top area individual was Lincoln-Way East’s Brandon Nathan, who had a 1,301 six-game series at Orland Bowl. Fourth-place Lincoln-Way Central (5,962) led the local contingent in the team standings, the Knights finishing two spots ahead of Lincoln-Way East (5,913).

Girls Bowling

SouthWest Suburban Blue Meet: Lockport (6,505) edged Joliet West (6,205) for the team title at Orland Bowl. The champion Porters were led by Bri Zabierek (1,416) and Nicole Troha (1,363), who finished second and third, respectively, behind Sandburg’s Nicole Powell (1,431). Bolingbrook’s Felicia Montecinos (1,350) was fourth, followed by Joliet West teammates Taylor Bailey (1,343) and Julianne Kowalski (1,318).

SouthWest Suburban Red Meet: Runner-up Jessica Schram (1,265) led Lincoln-Way West (5,414) to a third-place showing behind Andrew (5,790) and Lincoln-Way North (5,460) at Orland Bowl. Andrew’s Nicole Zopf (1,362) was the top individual, her total including a perfect 300 score in the fourth game.

Men’s Basketball

St. Francis 71, Calumet (Ind.) 55: Chris Miller had 16 points and Edvinas Presniakovas added 12 to spark visiting St. Francis (14-8, 10-6) in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Bellarmine 75, Lewis 71: David Bryant’s 29 points were the most for visiting Lewis (9-5, 3-3) in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Ryan Jackson tacked on 17 points for the Flyers.

Women’s Basketball

Bellarmine 74, Lewis 70: Sam Rinehart scored 19 points and Nikki Nellen added 13 for visiting Lewis (11-3, 4-2) in the GLVC. Jess Reinhart chipped in nine points and 11 rebounds for the Flyers.

St. Francis 69, Calumet (Ind.) 58: Katie Gonnering’s 33 points lifted visiting St. Francis (10-12, 9-6) in the CCAC. The Saints also received 11 points and 10 rebounds from Marissa Draper.

Joliet Junior College 68, Milwaukee Tech 55: Alana Warren had 22 points, six rebounds, six steals and five assists in leading visiting Joliet Junior College (7-12, 4-0) in Region IV.
