Q-and-A with Nick Peters, Coal City basketball

Peters is the typical athlete at a small high school. He plays football, basketball and baseball. A wide receiver/defensive end, he led the football team to the Class 4A quarterfinals in the fall and hopes to propel the basketball team even further. Peters, a power forward/center, is averaging 14 points per game and just over 6 rebounds.
How did you handle the quick turnaround from playing football to basketball?
We got started a little late for basketball, going that deep into the (football) playoffs but we’re coming back and we worked hard. But it’s not really hard, because we have a good coaching staff and athletic director. During the summer we communicate really well.
Are you going to have to make a decision soon as to what sport to pursue in college?
I’m thinking if I play a sport it will be basketball – at least, that’s what I’m hoping for.
Have you received any offers?
I’ve gotten some letters from places like Rockford and Carthage in Wisconsin. I’m not generally looking, but as a junior I’m just feeling it out.
What makes basketball the sport you should pursue at the next level?
It’s fun and I just like playing it a lot. If I have a basketball in my hands, I shoot it around and play.
If you had the athletic ability to play any sport, what would it be?
I would play in the NFL because of the light those guys are put in in this country. They’re pretty much at the top of the food chain everywhere. And I know that I look up to those guys and I think that would be a great thing to have.
If you could be on any reality show, which one would it be?
“Duck Dynasty” on A&E. To have that much money and run around and buying stupid stuff would be a lot of fun.
