Romeoville’s gym has been very, very good to Plainfield Central.
The Wildcats won for the fourth time in five games at Romeoville this season and snapped an eight-game losing streak with a 48-45 overtime win Friday night over the Spartans.
“This has been a good gym to us,” Central coach Steve Lamberti said. “We’re 4-1 in the gym this year.”
Dwight Watkins hit a three-pointer to begin the overtime and the Wildcats never were headed. Plainfield Central ran its records to 7-9 overall and 2-5 in the Southwest Prairie Conference. Romeoville dropped to 4-14, 0-7.
“Both teams played well,” Romeoville coach Jeff Bambule said. “It was a fun game to coach. Our fans were in it, their fans were in it. It was a good atmosphere.”
Mitch Young and Watkins each scored 12 points for Plainfield Central, which hadn’t tasted victory since its previous meeting against Romeoville. Rashad Steele had 12 points and Armani Bonilla chipped in 10, off the bench, for the hosts.
“We didn’t play great, but we played hard, competed and this was great for our guys,” Lamberti said. “We have to keep working because we are better than we’ve been playing.”
