Boys Basketball

No. 6 Morris 56, LaSalle-Peru 49: Ben Ortiz provided 25 points and Jason Matteson added 16 to aid host Morris (11-7).

West Chicago 54, Joliet Catholic 30: Ryan Peter had 13 points and Drake Fellows chipped in 10 for visiting Joliet Catholic (4-18).

Girls Basketball

No. 2 Plainfield East 65, Schaumburg 60: Gabby Williams scored 22 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to spark visiting Plainfield East (20-3). Nikia Edom chipped in 20 points for the Bengals.

Herscher 39, Gardner-South Wilmington 24: Emily Foley tossed in nine points for host Gardner-South Wilmington (10-14).

Morris 42, LaSalle-Peru 41: Leona Burton made a pair of free throws with six seconds left to win it for host Morris (5-18). Kallen Bernickus led the Redskins with 18 points.Sweet 16 Tournament

Fenwick 74, No. 5 Lincoln-Way East 56: Kara Krolicki netted 25 points to lead Lincoln-Way East (17-6) in final round at Lake Zurich.

Maine South 56, Providence 41: Alyssa Jurges scored 11 points and Alex Shermulis added 10 for Providence (11-13) in its tournament finale.

No. 5 Lincoln-Way East 35, Barrington 33: Dana O’Grady (9 points) scored on a layup with no time remaining to lift Lincoln-Way East in its first game of the day.

Providence 45, Lake Zurich 39: Alyssa Jurges netted 18 points to guide Providence in the early session.

Girls Bowling

South Suburban Blue Meet: Medalist Nora Collins (1,222 series) powered Lemont (5,511) to the team championship at Oak Forest Bowl. T.F. South (5,420) was second and Tinley Park (5,193) third among the seven competing squads. Kyra Udziela (1,157) added a fourth-place showing the Indians and teammate Lizzy Melvin (1,147) came in fifth.

Dixon Invitational: Lockport (5,493) finished third in the 24-team meet won by Harlem (5,606). The Porters were led by Ashley Hostert, who was ninth after posting an 1,162 series.

Competitive Dance

State Meet: Then finals were held at U.S. Cellular Coliseum in Bloomington. Morris (81.06) finished seventh and Lincoln-Way West (71.46) was 10th in Class 2A. Peotone (60.98) took eighth in 1A.

Competitive Cheerleading

Mahomet-Seymour Sectional: The top five teams in each division at all sectional complexes earned berths in the state meet. Providence (93.77) won the large team championship ahead of runner-up Lincoln-Way East (91.67). Plainfield South (89.57) came in fifth. Bolingbrook (91.80) prevailed in the coed competition, while Morris (87.97) took home top honors in the medium team display.

Riverside-Brookfield Sectional: Joliet West (91.70) was third and Lockport (91.53) fourth in the large team division. In the medium team competition, Lemont (85.03) finished third and Lincoln-Way West (84.40) fourth. Dwight (88.53) captured top honors in the small team portion. Wilmington (85.67) took second and Reed-Custer (83.77) finished fourth.

Men’s Basketball

Southern Indiana 65, Lewis 64: David Bryant’s 18 points paced host Lewis (11-6, 5-4) in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Ryan Jackson added 14 points and seven rebounds for the Flyers.

St. Francis 72, Purdue-Calumet 66: Billy Hubly’s 14 points keyed visiting St. Francis (16-8, 12-6) in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference. Mack Brown added 12 points for the Saints, who also received 11 points each from Mark Peters and Andrew Lerg.

Women’s Basketball

Lewis 71, Southern Indiana 69: Sam Rinehart contributed 23 points and 11 rebounds to guide host Lewis (14-3, 7-2) in the GLVC.

Purdue-Calumet 86, St. Francis 66: LaTrece Harris scored 13 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for visiting St. Francis (11-13, 10-7) in the CCAC.
